Charles Moore and William Turnbull, Moore House, Sea Rach condominium, California, USA 1963/69

The sea ranch is an ecological sensitive community project that aims at harmonizing with the beauty of the nature around. It was designed by the architectural firm MLTW (a collaboration of 4 architects: Moore, Lyndon, Turnbull and Whitaker). It is a set of 10 condominiums. The condominium 1 was designed by Moore. He was inspired by the local architecture of barns and a Russian orthodox chapel for the roof.

The house is made out of untreated, rough-hewn timber. The roof was made angled to deflect the wind and allow people to enjoy the sun without the effects of wind.

Within each unit, there are 3 blocks: one on the ground for the kitchen, one on the 1st floor for the bathroom and the last one is a sleeping pod suspended on 4 posts, accessible by a ladder.
